Voltar5 Back-to-School Tech Tips
In recent years, technology has promoted a major digital transformation that is reflected in the educational landscape, nationally and internationally. The chalk and the slate are falling more and more into disuse. Nowadays, children are encouraged to develop their activities on the computer, and tablets are used in classrooms to stimulate learning.
Back-to-school is just around the corner, and this is the ideal time to think about the kind of technology that will be needed for the start of the new school year.
The return to school always implies an investment on the part of families, from elementary school to university. Notebooks, materials, and now also gadgets, are increasingly indispensable.
Get to know a list of important tech products for this new school term.
Laptop
Did you know that 53% of teachers believe that increased student access to individual computers makes teaching easier? One of the most important tools for school is, without a doubt, the laptop. Searching the Internet, writing assignments, checking e-mail, and accessing extracurricular content are all essential activities in a student’s life.
Whether you are in university, training or your children are going back to school, a light and powerful laptop helps you get it all done more efficiently.
The HP Stream 11 Pro G5 11.6″ laptop is ideal for studying at school, at home, at the library, or even at the coffee shop. With only <18 mm thickness and an initial weight of <1.3 kg, it has passed MIL-STD 810G, IP 41 tests, and the drop test at a height of 76 cm on concrete.
As for its specifications, highlights include the Intel Celeron Dual Core 1.1 GHz processor, 64 GB of capacity, and a battery life of up to 12 hours. This is a laptop capable of handling many tasks simultaneously, even if they are heavy, such as video editing.
Desktop
But using a laptop is not always done in the most productive way. The screen is smaller, which impacts body posture, so to work at home we recommend using an external monitor, mouse, and keyboard.
Sure, this equipment can’t be carried around like a laptop, but it’s a good choice if your kids need a larger screen, something you can only get on a desktop monitor, or if they feel more comfortable with a larger keyboard, something you can’t get with most laptops either.
Tablet
The laptop is very useful for a student, but it’s not the only possible solution. There are many versatile tablets that can meet the expectations of even the most demanding student, who wants technology to help him be more productive.
Because of their ergonomics and portability, tablets are great to use at home and to take to school to carry all your assignments and notes. They fit comfortably in any backpack, purse, or even a woman’s wallet and can thus be taken anywhere.
From the most affordable to the most advanced, there are several tablets suitable for the needs of a student. These are the ones we recommend.
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A is good value for money. With 2 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage, it is ideal for running most of today’s applications, including document apps and many others commonly used by students.
The same brand also offers the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, a full-featured Android tablet, featuring a 10.4-inch screen and a thin and light design. The large display with good resolution provides plenty of comfort for watching videos, viewing article pages, and even writing or drawing using the S Pen.
Smartphone
The cell phone in the classroom, with access to the Internet, is a very powerful tool that can help students build an individual learning path if used successfully. Access to tools to check their own work, to simulators, or to other types of information allows each student to learn autonomously and to develop skills crucial to their full education.
In addition, a smartphone allows the installation of apps to increase performance in this back-to-school period. Our advice goes to the Samsung Galaxy A12, a 2020 smartphone that weighs 205 grams. It has a 6.5-inch screen, a 48 MP camera, and 32GB 3GB RAM. The processor is Octa Core 2.3GHz + 1.8GHz. Already from the Xiaomi brand,
This option from Xiaomi is very similar to the Samsung one. They share many of the specifications, namely, the processor, RAM capacity, and storage. The Redmi 9 is a product with few competitors in terms of multimedia thanks to the 13-megapixel camera that allows the Redmi 9 to take fantastic photos with a resolution of 4128×3096 pixels.
Internet
Once you have decided on the type of technological equipment you will buy, you should also make sure that there is a good Wi-Fi connection in your home. Everything will depend on the Internet connection, so a stable connection is essential: you will need a router with wireless.
The ideal is an Ethernet connection through a network cable, however, this solution may not be feasible in every location in the house. Even if it is, the equipment may not have an input for the network cable, which is the case with tablets, for example.
Connecting to the network via Wi-Fi may be the most practical option, but you should ensure that you are avoiding the elements that could hinder this connection. Even if you are doing your best, if you have a large dwelling or need stable networking in several rooms, one router may not be enough.
In such cases, you may need a network repeater, which boosts the signal coming from the router, or a mesh system, which will create a wireless network that will completely replace the network that is created by the router, or even a powerline, a device that distributes Internet through the home’s electrical network.
